Gaza on the brink as one in four people face extreme hunger

Emergency
A sharp escalation of the conflict in Gaza has left the entire population of 2.2 million people in crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity. One in four households in Gaza, more than half a million people, are facing catastrophic hunger conditions. Hundreds of thousands are crammed into overcrowded shelters and hospitals, with food and water running out.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has provided emergency food and cash assistance to over 856,700 people across Gaza and the West Bank.
However, humanitarian operations are on the brink of collapse. WFP calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, the opening of all border crossings, and the resumption of commercial cargo to provide relief and put an end to the suffering.
The number of places where WFP and partners can safely provide life-saving assistance is shrinking rapidly, putting hundreds of thousands at risk of being cut off from any form of relief.
WFP urgently needs US$314 million until end April 2024 for its operations in Palestine.
